ACVO BEST RESIDENT MANUSCRIPT AWARDS

The ACVO planning committee and BOR are pleased to announce a newly revamped mechanism by which our college will recognize outstanding resident research. In an effort to better and more fairly evaluate our residents’ research efforts and to encourage their follow‐through to publication, we are excited about a new opportunity to showcase ACVO resident research efforts by awarding 3 BEST MANUSCRIPT AWARDS. These awards will replace the traditional best research and clinical papers, and the ‘Dr. Wheeler
Memorial’ awards for presentation at the meeting. Below are the winners of 2012.

CYNTHIA WHEELER MEMORIAL AWARD- BEST RESIDENT CASE REPORT MANUSCRIPT 2012
This award is funded a donor who wishes to remain anonymous. This award is given to the best case report manuscript entry. Judges consist of ACVO Diplomates who choose the winners on objective criteria. Each winner is presented with a plaque in front of their colleages and will receive a check for $500.

2012 Winner - Jay Harrington, North Carolina State University, Title: "Phacoemulsification and +14 diopter intraocular lens placement in a Saddlebred foal" Co-authors: RJ McMullen Jr., A Clode and BC Gilger

VETERINARY OPHTHALMIC SPECIALTIES, INC. - BEST RESIDENT BASIC SCIENCE RESEARCH MANUSCRIPT 2012
This award is given each year at the ACVO annual conference. Residents who entered basic science research manuscripts are considered for this award. Judges consist of ACVO Diplomates who choose the winners based on objective criteria. Each winner is presented with a plaque in front of their colleagues and will receive a check for $500 from Veterinary Ophthalmic Specialties, Inc. and the ACVO (the sponsors).

ANNUAL VETERINARY STUDENT - ACVO VETERINARY OPHTHALMOLOGY JOURNAL AWARD
Each year the ACVO offers to fund awards to university students in undergraduate veterinary programs. The award gives recipients a one year subscription to the Veterinary Ophthalmology journal, an ACVO publication . The award is given in April/May each year to one recipient of each university. The award recipient is chosen by each school individually with its own subjective criteria.

The journal subscription begins the January of the next year. The first issue should arrive in February and consists of six issues. Approximately 20 awards are issued each year. If you would like to see if your school is eligible to participate please contact the ACVO office. Calls for this award go out each Spring. See award winners.

If you are a student, resident, veterinarian or just interested in veterinary ophthalmology you can subscribe through Wiley, the publisher. Residents should receive the reduced member rate.
