Full Time ophthalmologist position at MSPCA/Angell, Waltham campus
Join one of the few American Animal Hospital Accredited (AAHA) veterinary referral hospitals in Massachusetts!
Angell West is a 24-hour emergency and referral hospital in Waltham, MA, a small city 11 miles from downtown Boston. We are a satellite hospital of Angell Animal Medical Center, an emergency, referral and primary care hospital that has been operating in Boston for more than a century. The practice is ideally situated within easy reach of Metrowest communities and those north and south of Boston, with high quality primary care veterinary hospitals serving as our referral base.
Our facility and resources
The hospital is approximately 10,000 square feet and has been recently renovated. We are equipped with 3 spacious surgical suites with natural light, a sizeable surgical preparation and induction area, ultrasound, echocardiography, endoscopy, laparoscopy, and telemetry. Digital radiography is performed on-site in Waltham with read out of all films by the boarded radiologists at Angell-Boston. Labwork and samples are sent twice daily to the fully equipped Angell-Boston laboratory staffed by boarded pathologists. Lab results are also available from in-house Abaxis, NOVA, and Procyte machines at Angell West. Angell Westís physical space will expand in 2018 to almost double the square footage. We are incorporating our physical therapy program, currently located off site, to include certified physical therapists and a pool, underwater treadmill, laser, massage therapy and acupuncture.
All necessary specialty equipment for ophthalmology appointments and surgery will be purchased with input from the candidate that fills this position. There have been frequent requests from our referral community for ophthalmology offerings at our Waltham location, and we have a busy emergency caseload which will also support an ophthalmology service.
Our collegial staff includes an emergency/critical care department (2 specialists, 9 intern trained emergency doctors), internal medicine (two specialists), surgery (one specialist), avian-exotics (2 specialists), cardiology (one specialist and rotating doctors from Boston), neurology (appointments offered monthly), and behavior (appointments offered monthly). We have an anesthesia team of highly experienced technicians that will be available for ophthalmologic surgeries. Angell Boston has a thriving ophthalmology service, currently consisting of 2 ophthalmologists. Collaboration is one of our core values, and our surveyed team members consistently rate the people with whom they work as one of the best parts of their job. Numerous professional development offerings include weekly seminars, frequent lunch and learns, several hours of journal club, and didactic learning (primarily at our Boston practice).
What makes us unique: values-based, non-profit, Fear Free emphasis and more
Angell West is operated by the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (MSPCA), a non-profit, values-based organization with a focus on client service, patient care, and life-work balance. We hold ourselves to an extremely high standard of excellence, another of our core values, as evidenced by AAHA referral accreditation for our specialty services, which differentiates us from many of the other referral hospitals in the area. Continual improvement is part of our culture, and we are now pursuing Fear Free certification to aid us in providing the best experience possible for our patients. This position provides a unique opportunity to practice at a non-corporate referral hospital in an intimate client-focused setting, but with numerous amenities from the larger Angell Boston hospital as support. We are looking for an individual who shares our values and is seeking a smaller hospital based setting with a busy clinical and surgical ophthalmology practice. The caseload will come from appointments, in-house referral, and the emergency service.
Boston is a world class city with easy access to beaches, oceanfront and the mountains, and there are many cultural opportunities as well as famous Boston sports teams. Logan International Airport is a major airport allowing easy air travel. Angell has long enjoyed collaborative work with the nearby esteemed Longwood Medical Community (including the Harvard Medical School network of teaching hospitals).
We offer a competitive benefits package, a compensation plan consisting of a guaranteed base salary with additional production based payment, and a desirable work schedule. We are seeking applicants that are board certified or have completed an ophthalmology residency. Interested parties please contact email@example.com. Please apply on-line at angell.org/career.
